Combining black pepper with turmeric enhances absorption of curcumin by as much as 2000%! This is because most of the curcumin that is ingested gets eliminated by the liver before it can be absorbed. The active chemical in black pepper, called piperine, significantly improves the bioavailability of curcumin.
Adding fats is another way to increase the absorption of turmeric in the body. Choose healthy oils such as cold pressed virgin coconut, flaxseed, avocado or extra virgin olive oil.
The active ingredient, curcumin and other chemical compounds in turmeric have numerous health benefits because they have powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant properties. It’s very important to use good quality organic turmeric powder.
Turmeric is also a very rich source of many essential vitamins (vitamin B6, C, E) and minerals (iron, potassium, manganese, zinc, copper, magnesium and calcium).
- Place ½ tsp (1 gram) of organic turmeric powder into an empty glass.
- Then add ½ tsp healthy oil (avocado, virgin coconut virgin olive, or flaxseed).
- Also add a pinch of ground black pepper, cinnamon and ginger, a pinch of saffron and a ½ tsp honey for sweetness.
